Chess

The Gloucester Primary Schools Chess Congress took place on Sunday at Innsworth School. Our team did brilliantly, with pupils coming in 1st= and 3rd in the Girls' Championship and 1st= in the Individual Championship.

Upton also won the Team Championship.  Well done to everyone for such consistently brilliant performances, and thank you to Mr Jones and Mr Jones Senior for all their hard work coaching the players.

Football

Our football team beat Abbeymead School yesterday in the semi-final of the Plate Competition. The score was 4-1.

We now play Elmbridge Juniors in the final, which takes place on Saturday 29th March at 12 noon at Heron School.  All supporters are welcome - refreshments will be available.

Netball

The netball team have their final game of the season after school today, and are playing Abbeymead.

Science Challenge

Last week the Yr 5 Nature Club took part in the Setpoint Primary Challenge.  The theme was 'Living Things' and 20 children went to Beaufort School to explain to a panel of judges about the work they have been doing to encourage birds to visit the school grounds.

The children were assessed on the following criteria: evidence of brainstorming, evidence of scientific principles, imaginative design, verbal communication skills, quality of drawings and writing, their evaluation and evidence of teamwork.  All the children rose extremely well to the challenge and we had impressive feedback from the judges.

Well done to our team and thank you to Mrs Young, Science Subject Leader, for organising our participation in this event.

Staff Vacancies

We are still seeking Road Crossing Patrols and Midday Supervisors.  Please see last week's Newsletter for further details regarding these vacancies.
