Cross Country Running

Three of our junior children represented Gloucester City in the Gloucestershire County Primary Schools Cross Country Championships at Newent School recently.

The races were 1800m and there were over 100 competitors in each race.

Our pupils came 61st in the boys' race and 15th and 75th in the Girls' race - great results, especially as they were running against Yr 6 children.

Football

Our football team is to play Elmbridge Juniors in the final of the Plate Competition, which takes place tomorrow at 12 noon at Heron School.  All supporters are welcome - refreshments will be available.

Netball

The netball team drew their final game of the season against Abbeymead School last week. The score was 5-5.  Well done team!

Swimming Gala

Yesterday a team of our Junior children took part in the schools' swimming gala.  We were placed 4th out of 11 schools.  Well done to everyone who took part.

Year 3 play

The Yr 3 classes will be performing Tattybogle next Wednesday afternoon at 2.15pm.  All parents of children in Yr 3 are invited to attend.

Chess

Several members of our Chess Team were selected to play for Gloucester in the match against Cheltenham this week.  All players did well but particular congratulations to two pupils for winning their games.

French

For the last few years, we have been including French in the junior timetable through our link with the High School for Girls (a specialist language college).  We are delighted now to extend this provision by beginning lessons with Yr 1 and Yr 2 children.  These are taking place weekly, and the children have started by learning how to greet each other in French and learning about a French breakfast.  Next week, they will be learning some basic classroom instructions.  Perhaps you could ask your child about this!

School Uniform

We have noticed that several children in the upper juniors are wearing black trainers in school.  These are not suitable to be worn all day and we prefer them to wear proper school shoes if possible.  We do allow children to change into their trainers at playtimes.

Staff

We were delighted to welcome Mrs Ayrton to our Midday Supervisor Team this week.

Staff Vacancies

We are still seeking Road Crossing Patrols and Midday Supervisors.  Both important posts within our school - please see the newsletter from 14th March for further details and how to apply.

Visitors to School

This week we have been visited by a group of head teachers from the Isle of Wight.  They were spending a few days in Gloucestershire looking at different primary schools, and were particularly interested in seeing good practice with Yr 5 and Yr6 children.
