Pergola
We are very pleased with our new pergola, which is now nearing completion.  We just have to have the edges to the flower beds finished off and then members of the Year 2 Gardening Club will be able to help with the planting.  This is phase 1 of our grounds improvement project, aiming both to make the outside environment of the school more interesting for the children and to provide some shade. We hope to be able to start phase 2 shortly, and this will be transforming the area in between the Haven and the playground.

Values for Life
Last term's value was Compassion. This term we are focusing on Justice.

Service at St Leonard's Church
Our School Music Clubs (Orchestra, Junior Choir and Advanced Recorder Group) have been invited to provide Music for a special Songs of Praise Service at Upton St Leonards Church. This will take place at 3pm on Sunday 18th May (Trinity Sunday).

Parents, other family members and friends will be very welcome at the service, and we hope that the church will be full! It is a wonderful opportunity for the children to be able to make a contribution to a community event.

We have already started practising for this service. If your child is a member of the Orchestra, Junior Choir or the Advanced Recorder Group, they will have received a letter about this with a reply slip attached. We are
still waiting for some slips to come back, and would appreciate it if you would return them as soon as possible so that we know how many children will be attending.

Assessments
Please remember that Year 2 and Year 6 have their end of Key Stage Assessments during this term. The Year 2 children have already started their assessments and will be continuing over the next 3 weeks. The Year 6 Tests take place during the week beginning 12 May. It would help the children if they could have plenty of sleep and arrive at school on time having had a good breakfast!

Parking
Please note that at the beginning and end of school, the layby should be used only by delivery vehicles and those requiring disabled access.

Year 3 lining up
We are trying to encourage greater independence by our Year 3 children. When the whistle is blown at the start of the day, please allow them to stand in line on their own ready to go into class. The teachers include lining up quietly as one of the criteria for class rewards, so if you could support
your child in this it would be really helpful.

Class Assemblies
Class Assemblies for the remainder of the year are as follows:

Y1B - 9th May
Y5Y - 23rd May
Y4T - 13th June
Y5J - 20th June
Y2T - 27th June

Parents of children in these classes are very welcome to attend. Assemblies start at 9.55am.

Friends' Association
The Summer Fair is planned for Saturday 5th July from 12 noon until 3pm. If you are interested in helping, please see Lisa Stokes (mum of children in  Y1 and YR) or leave your details in the School Office.
