Gardening Club

We have arranged for the Year 2 Gardening Club to help with the planting of the beds round the pergola. We have planned to do this on Monday afternoon (during school time) and we hope that a photographer from the local paper will be present. Please let us know if you do not wish your child to be photographed and his/her name is not already on our list.

Staffing

I am delighted to inform you that Mrs Cordall is expecting a baby in September, and will therefore be taking maternity leave from the end of the summer term. Congratulations and best wishes to Mr and Mrs Cordall. Mrs Cordall’s role as Deputy Head of the infants will be temporarily taken over by Ms Beszant (Deputy Head of the juniors).

Sunny Weather

Now that we have seen some sunshine (even if only for a short period!) it is time for a reminder about sun cream. If your child is in the infants, please could they have sun cream applied as necessary before they come to school. If junior children bring sun cream to school, they should be aware that they should not share it with anyone else. The children should also have a hat to wear outside in the sunshine, and they are welcome to bring sunglasses. All items should be clearly labelled with the child’s name.

Assessments

The Year 6 Tests take place next week. It would help the children if they could have plenty of sleep and arrive at school on time having had a good breakfast!

Service at St Leonard’s Church

Our School Music Clubs (Orchestra, Junior Choir and Advanced Recorder Group) have been invited to provide Music for a special Songs of Praise Service at Upton St Leonards Church. This will take place at 3pm on Sunday 18th May (Trinity Sunday).

Parents, other family members and friends will be very welcome at the service, and we hope that the church will be full! It is a wonderful opportunity for the children to be able to make a contribution to a community event.

Class Assemblies

Class Assemblies for the remainder of the year are as follows:

Y5Y—23rd May

Y4T—13th June

Y5J—20th June

Y2T—27th June

Parents of children in these classes are very welcome to attend. Assemblies start at 9.55am.

Attendance Policy

At their meeting on Tuesday evening, the Governors approved the final version of the Attendance Policy. This sets out the school’s procedures to promote and monitor pupil attendance, gives clear details about authorised and unauthorised absence and explains the school’s response to requests for holidays in term time. A copy was included with this Newsletter (oldest child only), we will also make it available to download from our Prospectus page on the website.
