Quiz Teams

Many of our children took part in the local quiz competition over the last couple of weeks. Well done to 'The Usuals', to 'The Quiz Masters' and to 'The Chocolate Fudge Brownies' who all won trophies.

Chess Team

Our Chess Team was unbeaten during the 07/08 season, becoming champions of the Gloucester & District Primary Chess League.  The team members were presented with a shield and medals in assembly this morning.  Well done all ..... and to Mr Jones.

Walk to School Week

Next week is Walk to School Week, and the members of our School Eco Action Team have been working with Mrs Young to think of ways in which children and parents can be persuaded to join in.

Please consider whether your child could walk to school next week rather than travelling by car.  Even just walking some of the journey would be beneficial.  Please read the message from the Eco Action Team below.

Blue Tits

I hope your child has been talking to you about our Blue Tit family.  At the end of the winter we put up a next box in our school grounds, with a camera attachment.  We were delighted to see that the box became occupied and that 8 eggs had been laid.  Earlier this week, the excitement grew as the eggs hatched, and we have been watching the progress of the baby birds as they are fed and looked after by their parents.  Anyone who would like to pop in at the start or the end of the school day to see the family would be welcome.

Visits

The Year 1 Classes have visited Over Farm today - with their Wellington boots!  The trip was organised to enhance the children's Design and Technology work on fruit and vegetables.  As they left school this morning, the children were very excited about collecting eggs, feeding the animals and having a tractor ride.

The Year 3 Classes visited Nature in Art to extend their work in the topic of sculpture.

Eurovision Song Contest

Next week, the annual Eurovision Song Contest takes place at the Innsworth Primary School.  The event is organised by the High School for Girls in their capacity as a Modern Foreign Language College.  We shall be competing against Innsworth and Coney Hill Schools.

Songs of Praise

The Choir, Orchestra and Advanced Recorder Group are all taking part in a Songs of Praise Service at the Parish Church on Sunday afternoon.  The service starts at 3 pm and everyone will be welcome.

Children who are taking part, should please wear  their school uniform, and should arrive at the church by 2.45pm (no earlier than 2.30pm please).  We expect the service to last for about 45 minutes.

Holiday

The half term holiday is from Monday 26th to Friday 30th May.  School reopens on Monday 2nd June.

A message from the Eco Action Team ....

Welcome to the Upton St Leonard's Eco Action Team.  We are a group of pupils that are going to help make our school more eco friendly by working towards an Eco Schools Award.

Next week is Walk to School Week and we want as many people to walk to school as possible.  We would like to reduce the amount of cars outside our school and help the environment.

Here are a few ideas on how you can help:

    Ride on a bike/scooter

Drive some of the way, walk some of the way

    Walk in groups

    Share a lift

We hope you will all be part of Walk to School week and have lots of fun!

Feeding the birds

We've been feeding the birds that visit our school grounds for a while now and have run out of food fo them.  If anyone has any spare bird food, we would appreciate it if you could bring it in to school.
