Year 6 Residential Visit

Thank you to those parents who came to the meeting this week about the residential visit for next year's Y6 pupils.  If you did not receive your letter, please ask your child to collect another copy from the office.  The insurance details referred to in the letter are included with this newsletter.

Please ensure that the reply form reaches us as soon as possible - the first deposit is due by next Friday, 20th June.

On receipt of all the forms, we shall be able to decide if we have sufficient interest in the trip for it to go ahead.

Please note that the pocket money amount is £5, not £10!

Summer Concerts

As I wrote in last week's newsletter, all the junior children are involved in 2 concerts, which are after school (3.30pm - 4.30pm) on Wednesday 25th June and Wednesday 9th July.  The concerts will include performances by the choir, orchestra and recorder groups, by some of our instrumentalists and by each year group.  All junior children will be involved in both concerts.

As this is a new venture, we are unsure of the audience numbers, so we shall be issuing tickets.  We would prefer parents of children in Y3 and Y4 to come on 25th June and parents of children in Y5 and Y6 to come on 9th July.  Those who have children in both upper and lower juniors are welcome to choose which date.

We are initially restricting tickets to 2 per family, on a 'first come first served' basis.  Please return the accompanying slip as soon as possible.  Any tickets unallocated by Monday 23rd June will then be made available.

Library

No more library books will now be issued this term.  All books should be returned to school please.

Summer Fair

The Summer Fair is to be held on Saturday 5th July.  Anyone who is willing to help should please leave their name and details in the school office.

We shall be asking parents of children in the juniors for donations of bottles, and parents of children in the infants for donations of cakes.  Please bring your donations to the office from Monday 30th June (bottles) and Thursday 3rd July (cakes). Thank you very much.

Sports Day

Junior Sports Day will take place on Tuesday 1st July in the afternoon and will start at 1.15pm (the children will have their lunch at the normal time, but will have their playtime beforehand at 12 o'clock).  If it rains, we shall hold the event on Tuesday 8th July.

Infant Sports Day will take place on Thursday 3rd July starting at 1.30pm.  The reserve date is Thursday 10th July.

The Junior children are currently taking part in competitive sprint races, and their scores will be added to the totals for the cross country races, the inter-house tournament and the sports day activities.

Parents are very welcome to attend the Junior and Infant Sports afternoons.

Visits

The children in Reception had a wonderful time at the Cotswold Wildlife Park this week, and the Year 3 classes thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Cathedral.

The Year 4 children are going to Lower Moor Farm next Friday, and the Year 6 classes to one of the Diocesan Leavers' Services in the Cathedral on Tuesday.

Walking to School

Many thanks to all of you who have been encouraging your children to walk or cycle to school.  There was a good response during Walk to School week, and I hope this can be sustained.  Last week I attended a meeting with the Highways Department concerning the school's Travel Plan, and we shall have a visit shortly from one of their officers in order to carry out a site survey.  Watch out for news about what will happen next.

I have received a request from a parent to remind drivers to be considerate when driving around the Commelines Farm area, as the roads can be awkward for pedestrians.  Thank you.

Next week

I shall be away for most of next week, as I shall be attending training on Child Protection Law on Monday and then the Annual Conference of the National College for School Leadership from Wednesday to Friday.  The conference takes place in Birmingham, and I shall be listening to presentations by internationally renowned speakers on education, and also to the writers Stephen Covey and Ishmael Beah, the explorer Monty Halls and the Secretary of State for Education, Ed Balls.

There will be no Newsletter next week.
