School Fair

Despite a couple of heavy downpours, the Summer Fair on Saturday was successful and enjoyable. Many thanks to all those who helped and those who supported us by coming and spending money.  There was a huge amount of work that went into planning and organising this event by the Friends' Association - thank you in particular to Lisa Stokes, Michelle Fox, Tina Locke, Vicky Sheen and Chris Hornby.

The Fair raised a wonderful £1,100 - news of what this is to be spend on will be coming shortly.

Sports Day

Sadly we were defeated again by the weather.  The heavy and relentless rain made the field far too muddy for the infant sports on both the orriginal and the reserve dates.  This was a real shame for our youngest children as it's the second year in succession it's happened.

Leavers' Disco

The Leavers' Disco was held at Bowden Hall last night.  Thanks to the Friends' Association for organising this.  The Year 6 and Year 5 children had a great time, we were really pleased with their behaviour. Well done!

Leavers' Assembly

The Leavers' Assembly will be on Friday morning at 9.55am.  All Year 6 parents are welcome to attend.

Reports

You should have received your child's report yesterday.  We should appreciate it if you would return the parent's comment form as soon as possible.  If you would like to discuss the report with your child's class teacher then please get in touch.

Police

We were pleased to have a visit from two of our local Police Community Support Officers today.  They spent some time chatting to the juniors on the playground at lunchtime before talking to our Year 6 children about bullying and wishing them well in their new schools.

Summer Concerts

Thank you to all the children who were involved in our Summer Concerts, to Mr Abrahams for providing the piano accompaniment, and to the school staff, especially Mr Groves.  The concerts were a great success.

Music Lessons

If you are interested in your child learning a musical instrument at school, please contact the office for details.  We offer tuition during school time in flute, clarinet, oboe, piano, violin and brass instruments.

End of term

Term finishes at 3.15/3.20pm on Friday.  The new school year begins on Wednesday 3rd September.

Money

All outstanding dinner money must be paid by Monday, please.

We are also waiting for some deposits for next years residential visit.  We shall not be booking places for children without a deposit, and we would also like this by Monday please.

Fashion Show

Mrs Hawksworth's daughter is raising money for her Explorer Scout's Madagascar Expedition.  Claire will be voluntering at the Akany Avoko orphanage home.  This is located just outside the capital of Tana.  Over the last few years the Stroud & Tetbury District Scouts have developed links with Akany Avoko.  The Scouts will also take part in a ten day, 100 mile expedition which will involve getting to know and understanding the lives of the local people.

In order to raise money for this expedition, Mrs Hawksworth is arranging a Fashion Show/Sale at school on Tuesday 9th September. Admission is £4 and the event starts at 7.30pm.  All items will be modelled and available on the night at bargain prices.  Tickets are available from Mrs Hawksworth on 612490.

Football

Does your child enjoy playing football?

Would they like to join a team?

Are they in Y3 going into Y4 in September?

If so, Abbeymead Rovers are looking for players for next season.  Training and matches take place on a Saturday morning, organised by an FA qualified coach.

Please contact Andy Liddle on 420353 or andyliddle@aol.com for more details.

Training is also available for Y1 and Y2
