Year 6 Goodbye and Good Luck

This morning, in our special Y6 Leavers' Assembly, we said goodbye to the children about to go to Secondary School.  The children recounted some of their favourite memories of Upton, and sang 'Lead Me On', one of the hymns they learned for the Diocesan Service in the Cathedral.  They were presented with dictionaries, kindly donated by the Friends' Association.

Our Year 6 children are transferring to 14 different schools!  The numbers are as follows:

Archway - 2; Barnwood Park - 6; Brockworth - 3; Chosen Hill - 3; Churchdown - 13; Crypt - 5; High School for Girls - 2; Kings - 1; Newent - 8; Pates - 2; Ribston Hall - 7; Severn Vale - 1; Sir Thomas Rich's - 4; St Peter's - 2; Stroud High - 1

We wish them all every success in their new schools.

The following Awards were presented in assembly today: -

 

R J Huxford Awards

The R J Huxford Awards are presented annually to a child in each class who has shown particular effort or progress.  It can recognise any achievement, academic or social.

 

The Tandy Trophy

The Tandy Trophy is awarded in Year 6 for sporting achievement.  The award recognises true sporting attitude as well as skill.

 

Musical talent was also celebrated as a Silver Award for cornet and a Distinction in a preliminary piano exam were handed out.

House Point Trophy

The House Point Trophy was won by Ash with 4840 points. In 2nd place were Beech with 4264 points, 3rd were Oak with 4680 and 4th were Elm with 4015 points.  The children have won a total of 17799 house points this year, which is an incredible 9027 points more than last year! Well done everyone!

 

Football

Congratulations to one of our pupils who took part in trials at Crystal Palace at the weekend and has been selected to play in the England side in a mini World Cup.

 

Tennis

Well done to our Year 2 tennis team, who came 3rd in the local Tennis Festival.

 

 

Staff

Today we said goodbye to Mrs Hassanjee, who has been working with Year 5 over the last few weeks.  Mrs Cordall starts her maternity leave today.  Her baby is due in September, and she was presented with flowers and lots of good wishes in assembly this afternoon.

 

Reports

Thank you to those of you who have returned your report slips, and especially if you have added a comment.  We still have some comments to reply to, and will be doing this at the start of next term.

Year 6 Production

The Year 6 Production 'Music & Movement' was performed to parents on Tuesday and to older members of the village community on Wednesday.  Well done to the children for their fantastic singing, and thank you to Mr Abrahams for accompanying them on the piano, to Mrs Squires for helping with the dance and movement and to Mr Groves for inspiring the singing.

... to the staff for their enthusiasm during another busy year.  Thank you also to the Governors for their support, to the children for making our school such a happy place, and to all the parents who have helped us throughout the year.  See you all on the 3rd September!
