New School Year

Welcome back to school for the new year.  We are delighted to have new children joining us in Years 1, 3 and 5, and Miss Smith joining our staff team.  Miss Smith will be working in YRL for the coming year. We hope you will all be very happy with us.

Next week we shall be welcoming two new pupils to Y6T and our new Reception children will be starting in YRC and YRL.

Mrs Beszant is Deputy Head of the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 as well as of Key Stage 2 while Mrs Cordall takes her maternity leave.

School Times

Our school times are as follows:

Y1 and Y2 - School starts at 8.50am and finishes at 3.15pm.

Y3 - 6 - School starts at 8.50am and finishes at 3.20pm.

Please remember that children should not be on the school premises more than 10 minutes before the whistle goes at 8.50am unless they are attending a club.

Responsibility

We are now starting the 3rd year of the Values for Life Scheme, and this term's value is 'Responsibility'.

We work hard to encourage the children to develop a responsibility for their learning, their behaviour, their possessions and for day to day organisation.  In the junior years, they should be lining up quietly at the start of the school day and coming into school independently, and we would appreciate your support with this, please.

We have many ways of encouraging responsibility in school, and all children will have opportunities in class to perform various tasks.   In addition, we have some special responsibilities that are taken on by some children.  The School Council has representatives from Year 2 upwards, and meets regularly with Mrs Nelson and Ms Bannister to discuss important school issues and reports back to the classes.  The Executive Committee then meets with Ms Howard to put forward suggestions and to give feedback.

The Eco Group, with representatives from Year 1 upwards, meets with Mrs Young to help our school become more eco friendly by working towards the Eco Schools Award.

The House Captains are voted for by the children, and will be responsible not only for leading their team in sporting events, but will also be involved in the organisation of the Super Schools event and with other activities through the year.

We have two new responsibilities this year in the form of our School Captains.  These are selected by staff, and are a boy and a girl from Year 6 who will be given particular responsibilities such as showing visitors around school and answering the phone during some lunch-time periods.

Congratulations to all of the children who are taking on these responsibilities!

School Meals

The Summer Menu continues and next week will be week 2. (The menu can be found on this website under 'Latest news - Apr 1st - Spring/Summer menu).

If you wish to pay for for a whole term's meals, the cost is £120.70 for infants and £127.80 for juniors.  Please remember that if you pay weekly, money should be sent to the office on Mondays, and no meal should be taken unless it has been paid for.

Dates

We shall include dates for the term' events and details of clubs in next week's newsletter.
