"Up, up and away"

This term our topic is 'Over the hills and far away' and we will be looking at our favourite story book characters.

In Art we are looking at different children's illustrators and we have started by making our own 'Hungry Caterpillars' in the style of Eric Carle. In Design and Technology we are going to be making our own pop up books using the characters form our favourite books.

Later in the term we will be focusing on castles and thinking about what it would have been like to live in a castle. We will be re-telling fairy tales set in castles as part of our literacy work. In Geography we will be looking at where castles are located and finding out more about the parts of a castle and who lived there as part of our History work.

We have decorated our classrooms to look like the setting of some of our favourite stories. We have a 'Fairytale Castle' area with a red carpet, thrones and our own pet dragon. In the 'Enchanted Woods', Elmer, Winnie-the Pooh and the Gruffalo live amongst the trees and leaves. We also have 'Charlie and Lola's House' complete with decorated tables and Lola's favourite biscuit bunting. Our last area is 'Kipper's Cosy Corner' where Kipper the dog lives and is a great places to sit and enjoy some of our favourite stories.
